The centre of this piece is the following statement: “ the death spiral of the liberal elite…(is) inevitable given that an argument with reality can never be won”.
This is my favourite thing, my greatest pleasure: I love the short, simple, ringing, declarative statement.
Really, nobody being in charge is the outcome of a sustained attempt at defying the reality of how the world works. The clown world of the social sciences is simply our arrogance in the face of reality.
I have a pet theory about this - it’s the holocaust - we concluded, if that’s what we are, fuck it, let’s be something else.
Our author says the propaganda’s been going on for 100 years. He says we have been trying to convince ourselves of something fanciful for a 100 years. That would seem to be at odds with my notion that the holocaust is at the root of our embrace of delusion. But I think this can be reconciled. The holocaust could be viewed as the coup de grace, the most clear expression of our penchant for evil and the death knell for belief in ourselves, resulting in the full embrace of clown world. Again: if that’s what we are, let’s be something else, even if we know it is foolishness. I think it is widely known that what we are doing is stupid; even the strongest proponents know it is stupid. They stamp their feet like a child and scream we must be better.

Curtis Yarvin’s “Brief explanation of the cathedral” is the most compelling argument for how it works and better than my holocaust theory. He describes the mechanism behind all human polities from the family to the nation state. It is a truth we must wrestle with. Without accounting for his concept of the cathedral you can rest assured you’re on the wrong path. Strong words, I know, but I believe it.

I have long admired the social conservatism that underpinned the Orban government. I fervently hope that it’s values can be transmitted across the continent and that we can rediscover then on these shores.
I note that the EU seems determined to undermine this and has identified Poland as an easier win here, and has parachuted the odious Tusk in to carry out its bidding. One can only hope they resist the Troon cult in the same way they resisted the Marxist Leninist cancer.
I didn’t see Macron in this light previously. My feeling is he is a pretender and not the kind of leader Europe would benefit from. Will someone like Orban rise or will Putin become the gracious victor and Marshall plan Europe?
